Seance Machine — Interface & Features
Master the Seance Machine in The Incident at Galley House: 3D house model, scene filters, clue badges, evidence scanner, and unplaced character alerts.
What Is the Seance Machine?
The in-game device is officially called the Seance Machine — the remaster name for Type Help's memory interface. You enter scene codes like 01-QU-1-11 to load frozen tableaux from Sunday, March 7, 1936 at Galley House, and later swap keycards to access present-day memories.
Unlike the browser original, the Steam version adds a 3D house model you can orbit while filtering scenes by time period, room, or character. The machine also tracks which characters still need placement each act — a major quality-of-life upgrade praised in launch reviews.
Core Interface Elements
- Code dial: TIME-ROOM-PERSONS entry. Wrong codes waste a turn but unlock the Persistence achievement if repeated.
- Clue badges: Numbers beside watched scenes show how many unwatched scenes that tableau can lead to — similar to Type Help intuition.
- Unplaced alerts: Each time period lists characters you have not yet positioned in the timeline panel.
- Evidence scanner: After inspecting a scene, the machine scanner surfaces collectible evidence viewable from the main menu.
- Clickable notebook links: Scene codes typed in Reya's notebook become hyperlinks back to the machine.
See scene code system for format details and getting started for triangulation setup.
3D Model & View Switching
Launch reviews note the 3D floor plan helps orient room codes (EN, LI, QU, etc.) but takes practice — toggling between room view and code dial is the main UI learning curve. Use the floor plan page alongside the model until codes feel automatic.
Filter by character when hunting photo-card matches; filter by room when chasing dialogue that mentions movement between DI and KI.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it still called the memory machine?
Community wikis use both names. In-game UI and achievements use Seance Machine.
Where is the machine located?
Basement annex off EN (Entrance). It is not its own room code in scene tags.
Can I rotate scenes 360°?
Yes. Many hotspots sit behind furniture — rotate slowly in ST and DI scenes.
