Scene Code System in The Incident at Galley House
Full breakdown of TIME-ROOM-PERSONS scene codes, room abbreviations, and how to use the catalog efficiently.
Code Format
Every memory scene in The Incident at Galley House is identified by a code in the format TIME-ROOM-PERSONS. Example: 01-QU-1-11.
- TIME — Two-digit time period (01–26+ depending on act). Think of these as reels on the memory machine, not always strict clock time.
- ROOM — Two-letter location code (QU, EN, LI, etc.).
- PERSONS — Hyphen-separated list of every person present in the scene, in ascending order. In
01-QU-1-11, Person 1 and Person 11 are both at Quail Lane during period 01.
Each alive character appears in exactly one scene per time period. Person numbers are tied to death order: Person 11 dies first, Person 10 second, down to Person 1 last. Special codes like 01-ST-12 reference Rupert Galley before the main numbering is clear. See also the room codes reference and death order chart.
Room Code Table
| Code | Location |
|---|---|
| QU | Quail Lane (muddy approach road) |
| EN | Entrance (foyer and stairs) |
| LI | Living Room |

| ST | Study |
| KI | Kitchen |
| BI | Billiard Room |
| VI | Victoria's Room |
| AT | Attic |
| CH | Chapel |
| MA | Master Bedroom |
| OS | Oswald's Room |
| HE | Helen's Room |
| WI | Wintercote (off-site village) |
Scenes in WI take place outside the manor. Katherine, Annie and Vic's mother, lives in Wintercote and becomes important in Act 4 deductions.
Using Codes in Investigation
When dialogue mentions where someone is headed, combine the time period, room abbreviation, and every person who should be present. If a scene fails, check whether someone died earlier than you assumed — dead characters cannot appear in later periods.
The gray reference numbers beside discovered scenes in Type Help (and badge counts in the remaster) show how many linked scenes remain unfound. The room lookup tool filters by code segment, and the scene tracker logs what you have unlocked.
Duplicate-looking codes cannot exist — each TIME-ROOM-PERSONS tuple is unique. Consult scene progression for act gates and difficult deductions for the hardest leaps.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Person 11 appear in my first scene?
Person 11 is Rupert Galley, the mysterious guest. He dies first chronologically, but you discover scenes out of order. The code lists who is present, not who dies in that scene.
What does 03-LI-1-4-5-6-7-8-9 mean?
Time period 03, Living Room, with persons 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 all present. Every living character in that hour appears exactly once across the act.
Can I guess scene codes randomly?
The game allows unlimited attempts, but random guessing is impractical. Deduce codes from dialogue clues about location, time, and who is present.
Where can I list all scenes?
The walkthrough all-scenes page and in-game catalog after Act 2 list every code. Use gradual hints if you want nudges without full spoilers.
